National Chung Cheng University Mandarin Wordlikeness Project

The Mandarin Wordlikeness Project consists of a series of megastudies, which are experiments with such large numbers of items and participants that they can be statistically modeled with a large number of item and participant variables, including interactions of some of these variables. This online database gives basic information on the items and participants, along with both of the dependent variables (binary wordlikeness judgments and reaction times), to help researchers to select materials for their own experiments or to conduct their own analyses on the archived results. Three megastudy databases are included: syllable judgments (nonlexical syllable items), disyllable judgments (disyllables formed of nonlexical syllables), and compound judgments (nonlexical two-character strings formed of real Chinese characters). All of the essential information on the items, participants, and responses are already available in this online database, but for the convenience of other researchers, we hope to add further item information as we continue to develop the database (e.g., phonotactic probability, neighborhood density, character frequency).

This website is for non-commercial research purposes only. Researchers are free to use any of the material in this database without prior permission, although we ask that you cite it as follows:
